Today was Toller's first day of 2nd grade! He was extremely excited to meet his teacher and see his friends. He was not nervous at all and wanted to be dropped off at the curb as to not be embarrassed. Really?!? He is 8!! I can't believe that is happening already.
He had a wonderful day and is totally exhausted.
I had a great first day with students today and am equally exhausted.
Enjoy some pictures. I'm off to bed!
Off to school
2nd grade
After school. We both had a great first day. We are so tired we are delirious!
Hopefully this will work. I obviously need to post more videos so I can remember how to post them and not mess it up.
Let me explain the video. Magnolia likes to be 'tossed' around and I know that. She laughs and smiles every time anyone does it with her. However, I 'toss' her around gently. I was not home when this video was made. When Brian and Toller showed me the video later I was holding Magnolia. Even though I was holding her and knew she was okay I still screamed several times while watching the video because I was confident Toller was going to land on her. He didn't. She is fine. She loved it. I love listening to her laugh, but prefer to just listen to the video and not watch it.
I cannot believe Magnolia is 10 months old today. I was cleaning her closet out and holding up her old tiny preemie clothes wondering how she ever fit in them. And to think at the time they were huge on her!! She is getting so big and doing such amazing things. Here is the low down in bullet form because I have a million things to do before I report to work next Thursday and if I try to write a long post it will never get finished. Instead you get short and sweet, but at least it's a post. Right?
*Height/Weight
10lbs 2.5 oz
24 inches long
Finding clothes to fit Magnolia is a bit of a challenge. She is a 0-3 month waist but a 6-9 month length. That's a problem. Our current solution....dresses, 6 -9 month dresses. Not sure what we will do in the winter. We have a couple pair of pants that are the perfect length, but they could fit two of her in the waist. We might be sporting dresses and leg warmers this winter!
*Eating
At night Magnolia is on a continuous pump feed of neosure that is mixed to 24 calories/oz. She is taking 30 ml an hour for 8 hours.
Magnolia is currently orally taking all her day feedings by bottle. She will take anywhere from 30-55 ml at a time. She averages around 200ml over the course of the day. Give or take.
Magnolia is taking some baby food. Some days more than others. Some days she wears it and some days she eats it. Her current favorite is sweet potatoes. Her SLP gave her a lollipop and she loved it. We can now get her to eat more when we dip the lollipop into her food. GROSS I know, but she loves it and will eat when we do this. We are hoping to continue to get her to eat orally but are thankful everyday for her g-tube. It is so much less stress knowing we have a way to give her the calories and nutrition she needs. It will be a great day when we only have to use the g-tube on occasion because she is eating all her meals orally, until then, yea g-tube!
*Social/Spoiled
Magnolia is very social. She has to be where everyone else is. Always. Call it social. Call it spoiled. Either way it's Magnolia.
*Toys
Magnolia loves her playmat. She likes looking at the toys dangling above her. She has even recently started reaching for the toys. Right now she reaches with one hand at a time. We are working on her using both hands to grab and hold toys. We are also helping her cross her midline to reach for toys. Her favorite toy is a slinky. Who knew?! She also loves anything that plays music.
*Strength
Head control is something we work on everyday all day. She is getting so much stronger and her head control is getting better all the time. Her trunk is still really weak, but we are working on it as well. She will not bare any weight on her legs, she actually rarely puts them down. She is getting AFO's next week so we will see if that helps.
*Smiles and laughing
Magnolia still gives her brother 10 times more smiles than she does anyone else. If you don't believe me just ask him! She smiles often and we love seeing them. She has started to laugh without being tickled, again mostly for Toller and mostly when he is bouncing her and playing rough.
